Lose Tinubu And Die Politically - Buhari's Kinsmen Warn The President As More Fact of Atiku, Tinubu 2019 Alliance Re-echoes

Northern socio-cultural and political groups have called on President Muhammadu Buhari to mend walls with the National Leader of the All Progressives Congress, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu.

The groups warned that the cold war between the duo was capable of destroying the ruling party.

Political analysts have also linked the recent disagreement between Tinubu and the APC National Chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, to the purported crisis between the former Governor of Lagos State and the President.

The Chairman, Coalition of Political Parties in Kaduna State, Muhammadu Sani-Ahmed, blamed those he described as the “kitchen cabinet” of the President for the seeming feud between Buhari and Tinubu.

“On the pages of newspapers, the two leaders have consistently denied any feud; but somebody close to them has told me there is a crisis between them,” he said.

Sani-Ahmed told Punch that with the big role played by Tinubu during the 2015 presidential election, there was a need for the two leaders to come together and settle their differences.

He said, “Nigerians are not stupid. Even the blind knows that the relationship between the President and the National Leader of APC is not cordial.

“This feud is being fuelled by those close to the President. They are telling the President the wrong things. The President and Tinubu must come together regardless of their differences to settle their rift before the 2019 elections because if it continues like this till that time, it will certainly affect the chances of the APC.”

Second Republic Member of the House of Representatives and also the Convener, Coalition of Northern Intellectuals, Politicians and Businessmen, Dr. Junaid Mohammed, had also earlier called on Buhari to apply caution in his handling of the alleged feud with Tinubu and the internal crisis in the APC.

He said, “Given the tenuous nature of this administration, the party (APC) and of course, the powerful enemies undoubtedly which Tinubu has, he (Buhari) should do well to please take it easy. Some of us believe that he (Tinubu) certainly has done some good for the party, (Muhammadu) Buhari as a person, and for the country; we would not want him to fall by the wayside as a result of lack of tact.

“I also believe that he (Tinubu), Buhari and leading members of the party must all rush back to the drawing board because rightly or wrongly, their making Buhari as the presidential candidate and his arrogance and megalomania may in fact, sooner than later, destroy the party.

“And to make matters worse, Buhari does not have a clue about forming a party or running one. If care is not taken, he will throw the party into complete disarray and by the time most of them in the party realise it, it would have been too late.‎”

Behind Governor Ben Ayade's Misrule, There Is Speaker John Gaul, By Inyali Peter

Ben Ayade
More often than not, critics all over the world tend to blame the inability of an administration to live up to its expectations solely on the executive arm of government. This may be because among the three branches of government namely; the Executive, Legislature and the Judiciary, the first is the statutory head and the one that goes out during campaigns to tell the electorates what they would do.  Chief executive officers of the three tiers of government are  constantly attacked and slammed in almost every failed attempt or failure to attempt. People seldomly talk about the place of other arms of government in such betrayal of public trust.

But, to be fair, the executive does not reserve the exclusive right to determine what happen in government or have absolute independence to make certain policies work. It may be in charge of running the day to day activities of government but for it  to succeed and progress to the point of satisfying public demand, the other two arms of government must effectively play their roles. It must be a collective responsibility of the three.

No doubt, there's separation of power as provided by the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), but the success of any administration rest on the proactiveness of all  the three. This means that, no single arm of government survives or succeed in isolation; they always fall back to each other to stand.

While corporation and understanding is eminent, it should not be done in such a way that the duties of one arm is undermined. No arm should become a surrogate to another; there should be some level of independence in other to enable each of the arms carry out their functions effectively. Success in government can only be achieved through a concerted efforts of the three arms therefore they should all share in the success and failure of any administration.

For the purpose of understanding, let me succinctly remind us the functions of the three arms of government.

The Legislature which to me is the most critical arm of government has a major responsibility to make law. It is also duty bound to carry out oversight function on the executive and the judiciary. By this, it means that the legislative arm has a duty to supervise and scrutinize the activities of the executive to influence the administrative policies.

It (legislature) exist as a commissary of the public that is why it can prefer the charge of impeachment on their executives. It represent the public trust. It has the powers to control how and when government  finances are spent. This is why the head of the executive seeks approval of the appropriation bill at the beginning of every fiscal year from the legislative arm. The legislature gives or deny approvals for loans.

The Executive arm which is the head of every administration has a major responsibility of enforcing the laws made by the legislature. It is in charge of the day to day running of government as well as does the formulation and implementation of government policies, etc.

And lastly, the judiciary is obligated to interpret and administer justice. It is the custodian of the constitution of every society and the conscience of the people. It also in most cases play advisory role to other arms.

In Cross River, the misrule of Governor Ben Ayade is very visible to the blinds and very audible to the deaf. But behind this  misadministration, there is the Speaker of the  8th Cross River state House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. John Gaul Lebo who has failed to lead the legislature to perform her function as the representation of the people. He is a major component (if the only) of Governor Ayade's misrule.

Let me explain. As stated earlier, the two major functions of the legislative arm of government is to make laws and to exercise some level of control, guide and scrutiny on the activities of the executive. This watchdog function is called the oversight function. Although the assembly has not done badly in making laws as it has passed not fewer than ten bills since its inauguration, the former is a critical expect of legislative business that has gone extinct under John-Gaul's watch. The house has acted since inception as if its only responsibility was to make laws. And even the laws (which I will write about another day) have little or  no direct bearing on the common man who should be the priority of every government. Don't expect me to give you some of these laws as I will discuss them exhaustively in a separate piece.

Governor Ayade has mercilessly come under heavy attack and criticism over some of his actions and inaction since he took over the mantle of leadership of the state. The opposition All Progressive Congress, APC and some critics have demanded his impeachment or resignation over some obvious gross misconduct. But such calls are very offensive to the speaker who has indirectly made himself a spokesman for the governor each time he comes under attack.

We have erroneously blamed Ayade solely for the poor state of governance in the state. May be this is because he is the head of the administration but a logical and critical analysis of what is transpiring in the state today will leave one wondering if we have an assembly that  has the courage to exercise it statutory right of checkmating the excesses of the executive. The answer of such ponder is on the negative obviously.

In his inaugural media interaction, the speaker pledged to uphold the integrity of the legislature. He vowed never to leave the assembly under the control of the executive.  But he said this feat can only be achieved without the legislature appearing to be fighting the executive. At that point, I pondered over many things because a typical Nigerian in place of authority will want to do things unchallenged; and knowing the kind of governor we have, I said to myself that this man may just have unofficially handed over himself to the governor with the attachment of such clause to his pledge.

You can't effectively carry out an oversight function without appearing to challenge the powers of the executive to carry out some programs. Fight to me is not only when blows are exchanged but disagreement with somebody over an issue could also be referred to as a fight. Nobody was expecting the Speaker to carry matched, gun and irons to chase the governor in performing his oversight function. Perhaps, the speaker may have understood it differently.

The statement invariably set the premise for what we have today as the most gullible, unserious and irresponsible assembly in Nigeria. An assembly that lacks the courage to call the governor to question when he errs. An assembly that has become a rubber stamp to the governor. And assembly that house a leadership that is an informant to the power co-governor. An assembly that has passed all the bills from the governor, including working on a bill to promote street hawking in Calabar. An assembly that before the governor says Jack Robinson, his demands will be approved without due consideration of the consequences.

Lebo ensured that the local government act is amended to create room for the governor's wish to set up caretaker committee without minding the consequences of such actions to the system. From when the local government would be devolved, the federal government will no longer grant the state local government allocation. Our laws provide that allocations are only granted to democratically elected government. So the responsibility to pay local government workers salaries and other overheads will now be tied down to the meager federal allocation for the state government. This may just be one of the worst mistakes of any legislative regime in the history of the state.

Today, Lebo assembly is a gathering of unserious people and naysayers who even lack the courage to demand their statutory benefits from the governor. All members of Ayade's family in government are driving official cars while honourable members almost two years after inauguration are still using their personal vehicles for official purposes.

Why would any man blame only Ayade for reducing governance to comic show when he knows everything he does is accurate before Speaker John-Gaul? Why would anybody single out Ayade for crucification for destroying the legacies of the state in just 18 months? Why would anybody blame only Ayade for the bad roads, insecurity, poor water supply, damaged education, agriculture, health and tourism systems when Juhn Gaul has deliberately paid deaf ears to the call for the legislature to perform her oversight function on the executive? He (Speaker) has given Ayade an open cheque to run Cross River state as it pleases.

It is absurd for anybody to think that every spoiled child is responsible for his or her actions and therefore should be blamed for every misdeed. In most circumstances, the child is just as good or as bad as the parents make them. In this case, although Ayade is the head of the administration, the constitution gives the speaker the mandate to play the role of a parent which he has neglected with disdain. So, the governor alone cannot be held responsible for all the atrocities this administration has committed against our belief system.

During one of the governor's world tours that kept him away from the country for almost three months, Cross Riverians raised concern on why he didn't inform the assembly officially and handover power to his deputy to act. In defending the governor's action, the Speaker said that there's no law that mandates the governor to handover to his deputy while in an unofficial leave. I wonder the law that permits the governor to leave the state without leadership for that long!

When Calabar officially bowed to refuse and dirt, a highly placed government official like the Speaker who was supposed to compel relevant agencies to clean up the city came out to ridiculously abused the intelligence of Cross Riverian with his shameless claim that Calabar is now dirty because Ayade was paying workers salaries regularly. How payment of salaries has become a great privilege done to civil servants by government and a reason for government negligence to keep the environment clean is appalling.

The governor has in different fora publicly addressed his think-tank, Frank Ayade as a co-governor and our dear speaker thumped ups. John-Gaul has reduced the office of speaker to the level that if Ayade fart, he will go to the press to quote laws that support such action. He has converted the office of speakership to a Personal Assistant to the governor.

During one of his media parleys, the speaker said that the governor is by law allowed to appoint not more than 64 aides. But today, Ayade has appointed over 1,500 aides to the commendation of our dear Speaker. No doubt, he is one among equals but the leadership must be firm enough to take decisions that will make the erring governor sit up.

In the assembly complex, there's no steady power supply and no water. Legislative aides are not being paid. Lawmakers are not given their allowances while the governor has acquired the latest Tundra for the speaker to ensure his continues support at the detriment of his colleagues is guaranteed. Any lawmaker who dares try to demand his due entitlement will be tagged a betrayer and an enemy to the family.

How can there be a family when a cabal is sitting on the benefit of others in the name of loyalty? How can the lawmakers push all the blame on Ayade when they themselves have sold their consciences and duties to the governor? How can we single out only the governor to blame for our present situation when people who were supposed to be act as our consciences have sold their mandates to fear, loyalty and the very enemy of our common patrimony in the name of showing loyalty to their party ? For me, such is not loyalty but cowardice because the people you represent must come first before your party!

Apart from unleashing terror on our economy by making useless and unnecessary appointments, Ayade has formed boards and agencies that our laws does not recognise yet the legislature which is the representation of the people is feigning ignorance. The spate of insecurity in the state is on the increase and yet we don't have a courageous speaker that can preside over a session that will call the governor to answer some questions over the many allegations linking his aides to the menace.

Ayade has crippled everything in the state and yet John-Gaul is clapping for him. With the level of sycophancy and gullibility displayed by Lebo and his colleagues, the may be no immediate solutions to the problem of leadership under this administration.

Even the Bible says that when you see somebody committing sin and you fail to report to appropriate authorities, you are also as guilty as the person committing the sin. Hence, behind every Ayade misrule, there's a John-Gaul. Until other members rise to their responsibilities by calling the speaker to order, I foresee even a worst state than we are already are in the nearest future.

The legislature must perform her oversight function effectively to return the lost glory of our dear state. Members should see beyond party sentiments to work towards building a new Cross River. They must stop their "Sidon look" attitude because posterity will hold them all responsible.

May God help Cross River!

Cross River University of Technology, CRUTECH alumni association have lauded the state governor, Senator Ben Ayade for what they described as "very timely intervention" in the increase of the varsity monthly subvention from N169 million to N200 million.

The President of the association, Mr. Eyam Abeng who said this in reaction to the verbal approval made by the governor during his first official visit to the university on Thursday, however appealed to the Governor to speedily implement the increment.

Abeng said that, "We want to commend the governor for his timely intervention in the plight of CRUTECH. This increment of the varsity monthly subvention was long overdue and we as critical stakeholders were very worried over the financial position of the institution.

"We want to appeal to our dear governor who is by the law establishing CRUTECH the visitor of the university to grant a speedy implementation of the increment. We have seen how politicians deceived people with empty promises and lips services, but we have confidence in our governor that this will not be a political statement".

He added that "Visiting the university alone was a huge relief for us. It gives us confidence that our Professor is interested in developing the institution. CRUTECH is the only state owned university therefore should be given priority attention by government.

"With the increment in prices of goods and services, the N169 million subvention was no longer sustainable. School fee is the only revenue source of the institution and students are not paying. So a university that has a wage bill of over N200 million and spend about N3 million daily to run generator plants across the four campuses cannot function effectively if not properly funded".

While reiterating the association's position that the government should set up mechanism to compel companies operating in the state to sacrifice one per cent of their profit before tax to the development of tertiary institutions in the state, he added that the development of education cannot be left to government alone.

"During the last CRUTECH stakeholders forum, we stated our position that government should set up an Education Endowment Fund (EEF) where one per cent of profits before tax of all the firms operating in the state will be devoted to the development of state owned tertiary institutions. We want to reaffirm this our position because the development of education should be everybody's concern not just the government", he said.

The President called on the Commissioner of Police and other security agencies in the state to tighten security in the institution.

"The news I'm getting from the institution about renewed cult activities is leaving me very worried. CRUTECH have loss many students to cult clashes and I begin to wonder if the young people are learning at all. I want to appeal to the Police Commissioner and other security agencies in the state to intensify efforts to curb crime in the varsity".

Caught In 'The Act': APC Legal Adviser, Muiz Banire; Saraki's Lawyer Among SAN Who Bribed Judges; See Others

Muiz Banire
Sahara Reporters- Agents of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) currently investigating cases of judicial corruption have told SaharaReporters that their review of banking and other financial documents discovered that Muiz Banire, the National Legal Adviser of the All Progressives Congress (APC), paid N500, 000 to one of the judges under investigation.

EFCC agents said their forensic scrutiny of some judges’ bank accounts revealed suspicious payments made to numerous federal judges, including the one made by Mr. Banire.

The agents disclosed that several of the judges have been questioned by the anti-corruption agency. They added that some of the answers provided by the judges were at odds with bank statements where investigators detected a series of suspicious transactions involving senior lawyers.

Yesterday EFCC agents invited three of the lawyers to the agency’s offices for questioning. Our sources revealed that the agency has scheduled at least 25 more lawyers to come in for interrogation in relation to the active investigation.

Among Federal justices who have so far been questioned are Uwani Abba-Aji of the Appeals Court, James Agbadu-Fishim of the Industrial Court, Mohammed Yunusa of the Federal High Court, Nganjiwa Hyledzira of the Federal High Court, and Musa Kurya of the Federal High Court. Another Federal High Court judge, Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, was traced to a Lagos clinic where she falsely claimed she was admitted before she turned herself in last weekend.

Mr. Banire has not been invited by the EFCC and SaharaReporters could not confirm if and when he would be summoned. However, three senior lawyers grilled yesterday included Paul Usoro, a lawyer to Senate President Bukola Saraki, Gani Adetola-Kaseem, and Felix Fagbohungbe. Mr. Usoro allegedly made five deposits into the account of the James Agbadu-Fishim of the Industrial Court.

EFCC agents disclosed that, when asked why he made the deposits, Mr. Usoro claimed they were for four burials in the judge’s family, naming the deceased as the judge’s father, mother, mother-in-law, and father-in-law. He reportedly told EFCC agents that the fifth payment was to support the judge in any future funeral activity in the judge’s family.

Investigators told SaharaReporters that Mr. Fagbohungbe cooperated with the investigators until he was asked to read his statement before its formal adoption by investigators. He reportedly requested for more paper, and while investigators went to fetch the paper, he reportedly crossed out his initial statement and attempted to destroy it before it was wrested from him.

EFCC investigators say they would likely arraign three of the judges next Wednesday. They revealed that the case files of Justices Rita Ofili-Ajumogobia, Mohammed Yunusa, and James Agbadu-Fishim were ready for trial.

Meanwhile, a senior lawyer, Niyi Akintola, has denied information circulating in the media that he was summoned by the EFCC regarding allegations that he bribed some judges. He denied involvement in any cases of bribery of judges, and insisted that EFCC agents had yet to invite him. He added that he was not involved in defending any judges before the National Judicial Council.

Mr. Muiz Banire, the Legal Adviser of the ruling All Progressives Congres, APC has cleared the air on the purported N500,000 he allegedly sent to James Agbadu-Fishim of the Industrial Court, stating that the money he sent was a mere fulfillment of an assistance requested from the judge

News Punch has earlier culled a report from Sahara reporters where Banire was accused of crediting the indicted judge with N500,000.

According to a statement credited to the APC Legal Adviser, Banire, he explained that he had never met the judge in question for the last 17 years.

"Thank you for clarification sought. I have no official relationship with the said judge", Banire said in the statement

"The particular judge in question is an old friend in the 90's who only called me up some years back to seek financial assistance due to his mother's death. Beyond that, I have not seen him in the last almost seventeen years."

"Up till this moment, I am yet to be invited on the issue by EFCC. Thank you" Banire concluded

Made In Nigeria Products: Former President Obasanjo Orders For Aba Made Shoes
Former President of Nigeria, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, has made an order for made-in-Aba shoes.

Obasanjo made the order through the Chief Marketing Officer of Made-in-Aba Product, Governor Okezie Ikpeazu during the 2016 Tony Elumelu Entrepreneurship Forum in Lagos.

While making his speech at the event, the Abia State Governor stated that Aba remains the Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) capital of Nigeria, where young Nigerians were engaged in the business of making of shoes, clothing and other products.

The Governor added that a firm that had an order to supply up to 50,000 military boots was currently in Aba, where Aba shoemakers were making the production.

“I am happy to announce here that Aba which is the commercial nerve centre of the Abia State and Old Eastern Region of Nigeria, is also the SME capital of Nigeria, where young people are in the business of making shoes, bags and clothes, including the one I am wearing.

“Let me also announce here that a private firm, that has an order to supply 50,000 military boots is currently in Aba, where our shoemakers are in production for the firm.”

Speaking as one of the panelist at the forum, Obasanjo said to Governor Ikpeazu: “Governor, I listened to you and I commend you for what you’re doing in Abia. Please keep doing what you’ve told us you’re doing.

“So, Governor Abia, you have to send a pair of the shoes to me, I use size 42.”

800 Herdsmen Arrested Over Dangerous Attacks

Security agencies in Nigeria have arrested about 800 suspected violent herdsmen across the country, according to Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, SAN.

Prof. Osinbajo made this disclosure in Houston, Texas in the US on Friday at a Townhall event where he interacted with US-based Nigerians who asked questions live at the event and also via the Internet, according to a statement issued by his spokesperson Mr. Laolu Akande in Houston.

The Vice President fielded about thirty questions at a well-attended townhall event moderated by Mr. Rudolf Okonkwo of Sahara Reporters and Prof. Nimi Wariboko of Boston University.

Asked about the issue of Fulani Herdsmen attacks in certain states across the country and what the Federal Government was doing to curb the problem, the Vice President said "the President has given firm instructions to the security agencies to arrest not only herdsmen who are attacking communities anywhere in the country but anyone of them or anyone at all in possession of firearms."

He added that "there are about 800 of suspected violent herdsmen in the country that are currently in custody." The Vice President however decried the slow pace of the criminal justice system which is affecting the prompt trial of such suspects.

Prof. Osinbajo reminded the audience however that the issue of killings by such violent herdsmen has been a perennial issue especially as grazing lands continue to disappear over the years and the cattle feed on peoples crops on the farmlands. He clarified that the matter just did not crop up when President Buhari assumed office.

Vice President Osinbajo then urged against the tendency of interpreting the herdsmen issue as a religious issue, stressing that it is important for all Nigerians to refuse such divisive narratives and tendencies.

He reminded his audience that there has always been conflict between herdsmen and communities across the country and that people should disabuse the notion that the problem has just started because President Buhari, a Fulani is currently at the helm of affairs in the country.

Answering question on the need for community policing, the Vice President indicated that community policing via State Police is indeed a cardinal program of the ruling APC. However the party agenda cannot be introduced until there is an amendment to the nation’s constitution.

Giving a scenario where a policeman from Bayelsa State for instance is working in Borno State where he cannot even speak the language or understand the culture of the people he is policing, noting that such is counterproductive.

The current situation where police activities is controlled at the federal level sure has some limitations, he conceded adding that the “ the federal government is currently working to introduce community policing that would be in line with the constitution.”

Commenting on the recent arrest of judges in the country, Prof. Osinbajo told his Nigerian audience in Texas that impunity could be very dangerous in any sector and that the federal government is only exercising its executive function in attempting to check excesses.

He pointed out that the important thing is that due process is being followed as the judges were released about 24 hours after their arrest and once they had given their statements.

The Vice President also responded to a question on the state of the nation’s economy and attributed the current recession to the loss of about 60 percent of government revenue due to pipeline vandalisation and endemic corruption in the system.

He however stated that getting back oil production is a sure way to get out of the recession and the federal government is working to sort it out.

Answering question from the internet on when former President Goodluck Jonathan would be arrested, Osinbajo pointed out that the Buhari administration is not in the business of arresting just anyone anyhow. He said all the Buhari administration does is to empower the security agencies and the anti-corruption agencies to do their jobs, without the administration trying to teleguide them.

He also added that the fight against corruption in the country is not fought on ethnic, hasty or premediated grounds.

According to him, “ corruption is not an ethnic thing, there is an equal representation in the stealing as no one operates with his/her ethnic group alone, the culprits are in every case seen so far, united by greed to steal and not by ethnic or religious interest.”

He frowned at a situation where for instance as much as $15 billion has disappeared from the national coffers into private pockets, pointing out that no responsible government would wave that aside so as not to offend people.

Commenting on the declining fortunes of Nigeria in international sporting competitions occasioned by poor funding by the government, the Vice President said that a long-term solution to inadequate funding of sports is private sector involvement.
According to him, looking around countries that have excelled in international sporting competitions, the private sector in those countries are directly involved and that is exactly what should happen in Nigeria.

By the time companies and organizations take up sports sponsorship, he believes that the tide would change for good.

Nigerians from all walks of life in Houston, Texas and from other parts of the US attended the town hall meeting which was preceded by a Nigeria Infrastructure summit which showcased opportunities for foreign investors in Nigeria.

The woman, known only as Xiaoli, from Shenzhen in China, managed to raise around £14,000 by convincing her boyfriends, all 20 of them, to each buy her an iPhone 7.

She then sold the phones via the website Hui Shou Nao and made 115,010 Chine yuan (£13,991), which she then used to buy a house in the countryside.
Woman bought a house by getting all 20 of her boyfriends to get her an iPhone

The woman is believed to be from Shenzhen in southern China

Sharing Xiaoli’s story on a blogging forum, a user called Proud Qiaoba, said: ‘Everyone in the office is talking about this now.

‘Who knows what her boyfriends think now this news has become public.’

According to Proud Qiaoba, who appears to work with Xiaoli, the woman is not from a wealthy family and her ‘mum is a housewife and her dad is a migrant worker, and she is the oldest daughter.’

‘Her parents are getting old and she might be under a lot pressure hoping to buy them a house… But it’s still unbelievable that she could use this method!’

The woman allegedly sold the 20 iPhone 7s to the website for around £700 each, which Hui Shou Bao confirmed to the BBC.

The story was widely shared on the Chinese social network Weibo, where more than 13 million comments were posted using the hashtag ’20 mobiles for a house’.

Some people criticised her and called her ‘shameless’ but most praised her for her ingenuity.

One woman wrote: ‘I can’t even find one boyfriend. She can actually find 20 boyfriends at the same time and even get them to buy her an iPhone 7. Just want to ask her to teach me such skills.’

There had been media speculation that the Presidency powers have been seized by a set of Cabals headed by President Muhammadu Buhari's cousin, Mr. Mamman Daura, but the President in an unusual manner has claimed he is actually in charge and not his cousin.

Buhari according to  Punch Newspaper stated this in an interview with an on-air-presenter, Osasu Igbinedion, on her show, The Osasu show, which was monitored by our correspondent on the programme’s YouTube page.

Asked whether it was true that Daura, following his perceived strong influence over Buhari, was acting as unofficial president, as being alleged in some quarters, Buhari noted that, as the duly elected president of the country, he was in charge of the Federal Government.

He said, “Sahara Reporters, I don’t know where they got their information from. I stood for the election; I visited every local government in Nigeria by air, by road and so on. And we had one of the most credible elections. So, whoever feels that he has lost (out) somehow is his own problem, I have no problem.”

Buhari further said the Presidential Committee on the North East would ensure that the monies donated for humanitarian aid in the North East to tackle malnutrition among children in Internally Displaced Persons camps would be judiciously used.

He said the former general in charge of the committee was one ‘reputed for his integrity.’

“His headquarters is situated in the presidency, he’s got some staff and there is legal instrument developed on how this money would be spent. So, whoever has got any money to contribute or food items will go and make a presentation.

“We have a list of infrastructure, especially educational infrastructure, and it is up to them to go and choose what they would do,” the President said.

UNICEF estimates that about a quarter of a million children are malnourished in the North East as a result of Boko Haram insurgency.

A 42 years old Ramoni Akeem has confessed to the Police that he bought a human skull at just N10,000 from one Salimon Salami in Ogbomoso area in Oyo State.

Report according to Punch Newspaper has it that 3 persons in possession of two human skulls were arrested at a hideout in Ogbomoso by policemen from the Oyo State Police Command.

The state Commissioner of Police, Samuel Adegbuyi, said the arrest was made after the police received information from members of the public, who had raised the alarm that the suspects were dealing in human parts.

One of the skulls was discovered to have had what looked like a deep machete cut at its temple, leaving the police to suspect that the person the head belonged to might have been gruesomely killed.

Ramoni Akeem, 41, Azeez Ojelade, 36, and Salimon Salami, 40, were the suspects arrested by the police.

Akeem said he paid N10, 000 for the skulls and that Salami was the vendor.

Akeem said, “I am a herbalist and I heal people with herbs. I have never used body parts for rituals. One day, a friend came to me and said his friend discovered two corpses on a land where he had wanted to cut trees. He asked if I knew what body parts could be used for. I told him that I did not know anything about charms prepared with body parts.

“One of our friends, Saheed Ifa, who is a senior herbalist, heard about it and said he could make use of the skulls to prepare charms. When the skulls were produced, the man who brought them demanded for N10, 000. I paid him in four instalments. But that is all I know about the skulls. Ifa has travelled to Lagos. I don’t know where he lives in Lagos.”

Salami, who claimed to have discovered the corpses, denied any wrongdoing.

He said, “I was asked to cut some trees on a large piece of land but when I got there, I discovered two corpses and I told a friend that I was afraid to work on the land because someone killed two people there. He said I should continue with my work while he looked for what to do with the corpses. When he got a buyer, he contacted me and I went back to the bush and dismembered the heads from the bodies,” he said.

FG's Clueless Solution To Forex: More Hardship As Made-In-Nigeria Products Prices Soar To 100% Increment Under Buhari

The seemingly clueless to the exchange of Nigeria's currency by this administration is taking a deadly turn as local manufacturers have said there would soon be  100% inflation of locally manufactured products.

Since inception of this government, the Naira have suffered monumental unprecedented lost against the major global currencies, especially the dollar.

The scarcity of foreign exchange from the official window has compelled some manufacturers to source funds from the black market in order to keep their business going.

In the coming months, affected manufacturing firms say consumers may have to pay about 100 per cent more than what they currently pay for locally manufactured products.

Some manufacturers according to Punch Newspaper say they have been on queue to access forex for a period ranging from six months to one year without making any progress.

“While you wait endlessly like this, your production suffers and you do not have products to sell to your customers,” the Managing Director of Mojec Metering, Chantel Abdul, said.

When In June, the Central Bank of Nigeria dropped its fixed exchange rate strategy and adopted a flexible exchange rate, the move was seen as one that would bring enough supply of forex.

Although the new official rate was put at N280, the President, Manufacturers Association of Nigeria, Dr. Frank Jacobs, agreed that though it was high but that there should be more dollars  in circulation than in the previous months.

The Director General, Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Mr. Muda Yusuf, said of the policy, “The Chamber believes that this policy choice offers an improvement in the efficiency of foreign exchange allocation in the economy, improvement of liquidity in the foreign exchange market, reduction in the current trade arrears, reduction in the arrears of remittances.”

Contrary to all expectations, however, the foreign exchange market has become very illiquid and all efforts made to redeem the situation by the apex bank have yielded no respite to the manufacturing sector.

It was gathered that the CBN’s directive that 60 per cent of the forex supply in the system should go to the manufacturing sector had failed as manufacturers are unable to benefit from the policy months after the apex bank initiated it.

A reliable source in one of the commercial banks told our correspondent that banks were under a lot of pressure because of high forex demand from customers.

“There is very limited supply of forex and a lot of people are coming for the supply. The banks do not even have the forex not to talk of giving 60 per cent to a particular sector,” the source said.

An analyst and professor of Economics, Leo Ukpong, explained that the situation could not be helped, adding that the dollar was a foreign currency that Nigeria had no control over and so could not determine its supply or rate.

Already prices of some household items that are manufactured locally have been rising almost every day  following the increase in the cost of production.

For instance, a tablet of toilet soap, which sold for between N25 and N30 a few months ago, was offered on Friday for N100; while the price of 1kg of Omo sachet had gone up to N600 from N350 two months ago.

A major household products manufacturer, PZ Cussons, said sometimes in April that it was producing with dollars sourced at the parallel market rate of N320, at a time when the Federal Government pegged the official exchange rate of the dollar at N197. The dollar currently exchanges for N450 to N470 at the parallel market.

At Last, Presidency Gives EFCC, DSS Blanket Approval To ARREST 'almighty' Jonathan Over Fraud, Corruption

The Presidency through the Vice President, Prof Yemi Osinbajo may have given the Economic and Financial Crime Commission, The EFCC and the Nigeria secret police, the DSS blanket approval to arrest the former President, Goodluck Jonathan over various corruption and fraud allegations

Punch Newspaper reports that the Vice President Yemi Osinbajo, on Saturday, assured Nigerians that the Federal Government would not interfere in the work of security and anti-corruption agencies if they decided to move against former President Goodluck Jonathan.

Osinbajo, who said the current administration did not believe in arbitrary arrests, explained that the agencies of government were being empowered to do their jobs without undue interference.

The vice president, according to a statement by his spokesman, Mr. Laolu Akande, spoke on Friday in Houston, Texas in the United States at a meeting he had with Nigerians based in the US.

He was said to have answered questions on the economy, the anti-corruption war, the recent arrest of judges and the menace of herdsmen in parts of the country, as well as community policing.

The statement read, “Answering a question from the Internet on when former President Jonathan would be arrested, Osinbajo pointed out that the Buhari administration was not in the business of arresting people anyhow.

“He said all the Buhari administration did was to empower the security agencies and the anti-corruption agencies to do their jobs, without the administration trying to teleguide (monitor) them,”

Osinbajo was also quoted as saying that the fight against corruption in the country was not based on ethnic, hasty or premeditated grounds.

He said, “Corruption is not an ethnic thing, there is an equal representation in the stealing as no one operates with his or her ethnic group alone, the culprits are in every case seen so far, united by greed to steal and not by ethnic or religious interest.”

Osinbajo disclosed that as much as $15bn had been stolen from the national coffers by individuals.

He said no responsible government would wave that aside so as not to offend people.

Commenting on the recent arrest of some judges in the country, Osinbajo said the Federal Government was only exercising its executive function in attempting to check excesses.

He said impunity could be dangerous in any sector.

He said due process was followed as the judges were released about 24 hours after their arrest, having written their statements.

Osinbajo also disclosed that security agencies have arrested about 800 suspected herdsmen across the country in relation to violent attacks on innocent people.

He said, “The President has given firm instructions to the security agencies to arrest not only herdsmen, who are attacking communities anywhere in the country, but anyone of them or anyone at all in possession of firearms.

“There are about 800 of suspected violent herdsmen in the country who are currently in custody,” he said.

The vice president, however, lamented that the slow pace of the criminal justice system was affecting the prompt trial of such suspects.

Osinbajo said killings by violent herdsmen had been a perennial issue, especially as grazing lands continue to disappear over the years with the cattle feeding on people’s crops on the farmlands.

He clarified that the matter did not start when President Buhari assumed office.

Answering questions on the need for community policing, the vice president indicated that community policing via state police was a cardinal programme of the ruling party.

He, however, said the party’s agenda could not be introduced until there was an  amendment to the nation’s constitution.

“The Federal Government is currently working to introduce community policing, that would be in line with the constitution,” he said.

He also responded to a question on the state of the nation’s economy and attributed the current recession to the loss of about 60 per cent of government revenue due to pipeline vandalism and endemic corruption in the country.

He, however, stated that getting back oil production was a sure way to get out of the recession.

Leadership Newspaper- They are indications that Ondo State governor, Olusegun Mimiko has perfected plans to defect to the All Progressive Congress (APC) from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The governor on Friday met with President Muhammadu Buhari at the Presidential Villa.

According to Leadership Newspaper, checks reveal that Mimiko is looking for a soft landing hence the purpose of his visit to the president .

However, speaking to State House Correspondents after the meeting with the president,  he expressed reservations over the ability of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct a credible election in the state.

The governor based his assertions on the announcement on Thursday by the electoral body that Jimoh Ibrahim is the authentic candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)  in the forthcoming gubernatorial elections in the state.

According to him, the action of INEC is potentially dangerous as it can cause a breach of peace in the state.

Mimiko said the president has promised to look into it and that if there is any injustice, he  assured that it will be rectified.

He said: Under INEC guidelines, the time for substitution of candidates has even elapsed.

This action potentially can cause a breach of peace. In Ondo state in the last seven and half years, we have done everything possible to put good governance on the table. We see this action as potentially dangerous. It can cause conflagration in the state and that is why as the chief security officer of the state, I have come to alert Mr President of the potential danger of this injustice so that we can nip it in the bud.

On protest in the state, the governor said he has been on phone with stakeholders to ensure they keep the peace in the state.

“I have assured them that this injustice will not stay. We will continue to explore all avenues to make INEC see reasons why this impunity must not stand.

Asked if he still has confidence in INEC to conduct credible election, he said”If INEC finds it difficult to obey court order, a credible election starts with a process like this.

2015 CAN Bribe Scandal: How Pastor Oritsajafor Shared Jonathan N7b Largess; See List Of Who Gets What

Ayo Oritsejafo
New Telegraph - As investigations continue into various allegations of sleaze in the past administration, information has emerged that the former leadership of the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) may have presided over the sharing of the sum of N7billion allegedly provided by former President Goodluck Jonathan to solicit support of churches to vote for him in the March 28, 2015 elections.

Pentecostal pastor, Kallamu Musa Ali Dikwa, in an exclusive interview with Sunday Telegraph, said that CAN’s national and state executives, as well as various leaders, received various sums of money under the supervision of former CAN President, Pastor Ayo Oritsajafor and CAN General Secretary, Rev. (Dr.) Musa Asake, to campaign for the then President in the last election. “When we received the N7billion, you know CAN has five blocks. Each block in CAN collected N50million.

While National CAN executives got N30million each, some got N20million while women’s group was given N25million. All the state CAN officials collected N3million each. Zonal CAN chairmen got N5million each and former CAN President, Pastor Oritsejafor, went with the remaining part of the N7billion,” he said.

Besides the N7billion reportedly given for campaigns, Dikwa added: “There were Toyota Sports Utility Vehicles given to them. Let me tell you, there are lot of people that can come out to testify if not because of fear. They came church by church, to campaign for former President Jonathan as their candidate, just because they had collected N7billion for the campaigns.

But they didn’t exhaust the whole money on campaigns and the people that received the money were the former President of CAN and the General Secretary.” Giving reasons why he got N1million from CAN, he said the money was received as part of ‘out of court settlement’ in a suit against them.

“The matter is currently being investigated by the Independent Corrupt Practices Commission, which had informed me to play along with them.” He said shortly after the money was paid into his Ecobank account, a lien was placed on it and he never touched it as part of the investigators’ directive. “The reason why they bribed me with N1million was because I took them to court last year.

When I raised the issue of N7billion, the General Secretary of CAN, Dr. Asake, wrote a letter signed by him to the DSS to arrest and investigate me,” he said. Efforts to get reactions of Pastor Oritsajafor was unsuccessful as he neither picked his phone nor respond to our text message. The text message to Oritsejafor by 8:09am Saturday, after repeated calls reads: “Good morning His Eminence.

Hope you had a restful night sir. I have been calling you since yesterday, (Friday). One Pastor Dikwa alleged that you and Rev. Asake presided over the distribution of N7bn from Dr. Goodluck Jonathan for pastors to campaign for him in the churches last year. What is your position on this sir?” But Rev. Asake said Dikwa’s story is old and a figment of his imagination. He said neither he nor Oritsejafor presided over any sharing of N7billion because such money was never given to CAN leadership during their tenure. “He has been telling this story since last year.

He has spoken in Abuja and in Kaduna. The story is not straight forward because he (Dikwa) is attempting to dribble all Nigerians. The incident allegedly happened before the elections. Tell me, if it was true, would the government, which is arresting all indicted persons, not have arrested us? “On one occasion, when he brought up this issue, he was asked to produce evidence; he said he had no documents.

He even wrote a letter of apology to us, but now he has started going the old path. I am not afraid of probe. If EFCC invites me over this matter, I am willing to go there,” Asake, CAN General Secretary said. Current CAN President, Rev. Supo Ayokunle, who could not pick his call at about 13:25hrs, because his aide said “Baba is preaching,” later replied to our correspondent’s text message, saying, “Call the people concerned. I don’t have anything to do with it.”

States And The Failure Of Governance, By Gabriel Ikese

Nigerian governors
In 1967, General Yakubu Gowon superintended the dissolution of the regional divides, and the creation of twelve (12) States. The creation of the new States was greeted with thunderous applause and great enthusiasm. In the subsequent years, Generals’ Murtala Mohammed, Ibrahim Babangida and Sani Abacha raised the tally to 36 states.

One reason (among many others), for creating the states was for developmental purposes. The Generals believed unequivocally that the states would bring developments closer to the people. And the people believed them.

Several years gone by, the much anticipated development is nearly or totally nonexistent in many of the States. Each administration come and goes, bequeathing poverty and underdevelopment as legacies to the people.

Poverty at State levels is unprecedented. A good chunk of the populace live in abject penury. They can merely eke out a living, operating only at the basement of Abraham Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. In almost all the States, the situation of hunger, health, water, sanitation, education and infrastructures is abysmally deplorable.

The state of roads, both in the major arteries and interior crannies of majority of the States is ridiculously pathetic. On the TVC news stable yesterday, the people of Aba in Abia State were lamenting the despicable state of roads in the State which has brought them, sorrows and tears over the years. It appears that the persistent calls on the government to come to their rescue have yielded no positive response. Same situation is replicated in all States of the federation.

The consequences of such situation have been the soaring rate of accidents which have turned them into “a huge slaughter slab” where human lives are worth little or nothing. It also limits the transportation of goods and services to and from the rural areas to city centres.

The original intention was for States to be able to generate substantial revenue internally to service itself. But alas, aside from Lagos, Kano, Rivers and a few other States that are seemingly viable in terms of internal revenue generation, many have been reduced to fastidious gluttonous whales that suck the centre for sustenance. Quite absurd!

How we arrived at this precarious quagmire is not farfetched – bad governance and leadership at State levels. Some Governors became so inept and greedy. Corruption was comfortably embedded in the system with cynical inclinations. They got ensnared in illicit wealth accumulation and flamboyant luxuries to the detriment of State development.

The current Governors came with well decorated “point agendas”. Some ranging from one… five… ten… and even twenty point agendas. These templates were designed with developmental headliners like security, human and rural development, industrial growth, education, health, agriculture and infrastructure growth including water, roads, electrification, etc.

But as we speak, none of the State Governors can beat his chest to say he has delivered. Not even the least point on the agenda. They always invent new slogans as they come on board. They will vow to “leave the State better than they met it”. But verily, I said unto you that they will leave the States comatose. They always do that. Even worse than they met it.

Many of the Governors lack the creativity to explore revenue potentials in their States. Instead, they embarked on monthly pilgrimage to Abuja every other month (through their Commissioner for Finance), to share and receive allocations in FAAC and JAAC accounts from the centre. These monies are thereafter expended to service their aggrandizements tagged as recurrent expenditures.

The paraphernalia of office is more paramount than the rigors of bringing developments or what they now christened “dividend of democracy” to the people of the States. They drive lin long and unnecessary convoys and are always active in foreign trips where they pay to themselves, ridiculous dollars in estacodes.

Many of the States can no longer pay salaries, in spite of the several intervention bailout funds given to them by the federal government. The amount shared by the States every month from the centre runs into billions of naira, but nothing tangible, in terms of development has been provided in many of the States.

The capital expenditures are often misapplied, either in over ambitious white elephant projects that are intentionally designed not to be completed, or frivolities. In Benue State for instance, the Governor publicly celebrated the commissioning of a mere billboard. His Katsina State counterpart was reported to have bought thousands of coffins and distributed to mosques in the State. And the Governor in Jigawa was alleged to have concluded plans to build three (3) mosques in each of the thirty (30) constituencies in the State. All these are developmental strides of their Excellencies, the Governors.

It is high time Governors treated issues of governance with all the seriousness it deserves. They must think outside the box. Many States have rich mineral deposits and fertile arable lands for agriculture. These are potential which can be explored to boost their revenue earnings.

Governors should make deliberate efforts at building infrastructural capacities in their States. This will attract both local and foreign investors from far and near. It will also afford government the opportunity to partner with them to bring about positive developments to the States. The State can provide incentives for businesses to strive. Most importantly, they should invest in health and human development (education).

Doing these would excite the people and would certainly guarantee Governors a second tenure in office as reward for prudent, effective and efficient leadership.

Ikese writes from Jos, Plateau State.

EXPOSED: How Lawyers Got 'Backdoor' Court Victory For Ibrahim
Punch Newspaper - The Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party has picked holes in the orders of the Federal High Court recognising  Jimoh Ibrahim as the party’s governorship candidate ahead of the November 26 election in Ondo State.

The Makarfi faction, in a counter-affidavit filed before the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal, on Saturday, also faulted the roles played by lawyers engaged by the rival leadership faction of the PDP led by Ali Modu Sheriff in obtaining the court orders.

The caretaker committee faction filed the counter-affidavit in response to an objection filed by the Sheriff faction of the PDP, asking the Court of Appeal to discontinue the appeal commenced by the Makarfi’s rival faction against the order of the Federal High Court.

A special panel of the Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, led by Justice Jumai Sankey, was set up to deal with the cases that emanated from the orders made by Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court in Abuja on October 14, which  recognised Ibrahim as the authentic governorship candidate of the PDP in Ondo State.

The Makarfi faction of the PDP and others, including Jegede, have since filed about eight different cases primarily seeking leave to appeal against the Federal High Court orders.

They needed to first obtain the leave because they were not parties to the suit which Justice Abang made the orders.

They also need another leave to file their appeals because they failed to do so within 90 days of the delivery of the June 29 judgment of the Federal High Court.

Three of the cases have so far been withdrawn, leaving five pending.

But the Sheriff faction , on October 27, filed an objection to the cases filed by the Makarfi faction in the appeal numbered CA/A/551/2016, on the grounds that the Makarfi group did not receive the authority of the party to commence the legal action at the Court of Appeal.

In its response contained in the counter-affidavit filed against Sheriff’s faction’s objection to the appeal, the Makarfi camp  stated that the lawyers engaged by Sheriff deliberately hid the suit before the Federal High Court from legitimate authorities of the parties and went ahead to act as both the plaintiffs’ and respondents’ lawyers in the case.

The Makarfi faction also stated that the lawyers engaged by the Sheriff’s faction did not have the authority of the party to challenge the appeal.

Out of the eight cases originally filed in respect of the Ondo State PDP matters , only five of the cases filed by Jegede, PDP and Makarfi are left pending.

The appeal panel fixed Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday (of this week) for further hearing in the cases.

Group Wants ICC To Investigate Human skulls Found In Cross Rivers
A human rights group, Advocates of Social Justice for All (ASJA) has called on the International Criminal Court (ICC) to investigate the 23 human skull reportedly found at IPOB shrine by the Nigerian military in Cross Rivers state.

It would be recalled that troops fighting militancy and other criminalities in the Niger Delta, on Wednesday said they had discovered at least 23 human skulls and a full human skeleton in some of the shrines operated by militants in the Niger Delta.

Speaking at a press conference held in Abuja on Sunday, Executive Director of the group, Patriot Andrew James described the presence of the skull as barbaric and said there is need to investigate the source of the skull

He commended the military for making public the information, saying one would never have known that those claiming to be fighting for the emancipation of their region could engage in such

He said, "it is important that the ICC should look into this. We are aware that a lot of human rights are being violated by the so called militants in the Niger Delta, but this is not something that should be swept under the rug"

He berated Amnesty International for keeping silent and not speaking up in the face of such findings which he said show the level of human rights abuse going on by the militants

He said, "It is wicked, barbaric and animalistic for any group of persons to indulge in such heinous acts anywhere in the world and those responsible must be made to account for their sins against God and humanity.

" The Independent People of Biafra have been fingered as having using these human carcasses and the location as their shrine, it is unfortunate and very disturbing that people have misinterpreted the Human Rights charter of association and freedom of worship to take the lives of other innocents citizens while some international organizations and human rights organizations maintain an undignified silence.

"We therefore call on the Federal Government and all well meaning Nigerian to rise up and ensure that a thorough investigation is conduct and all the IPOB leaders and their sponsors who promote these heinous activities are brought to book within the shortest possible time."
