Tinubu 'Penetrates' Presidency To Oust Oyegun, To Push Him Out With Ambassadorial Appointment

Tinubu and Oyegun
The national leader of the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu may have penetrated the Presidency in his bid to ensure the ouster of the embattled National Chairman of the party,Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, report according to Vanguard News reveals.

According to Sunday Vanguard, the subterranean plots to remove the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress APC, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun is reportedly gaining some traction, with the forces working towards his removal angling to get the president to name him an ambassador. Past efforts to ease him out of the party through such appointments had failed as Chief Oyegun himself is said not to be well-disposed to such appointments.

Some party insiders accused the Secretary to the Government of the Federation SGF, Babachir Lawal of working in cahoot with the Asiwaju Bola Tinubu camp to remove the chairman.

However, the SGF has denied the allegation, saying such appointments are the prerogative of the president. In a text message to Sunday Vanguard, Lawal said; “I do not know anything about the chairman’s ambassadorial as such are made by the president. Did you see his name on the list read out on the floor of the Senate?”, he queried.

It was learnt according to our source that the plot by the contending camps to remove Odigie-Oyegun as the party’s National Chairman before the completion of his four-year term guaranteed by the APC Constitution is a veiled attempt to hijack the APC political machinery in the leadup to the 2019 general elections

The “sins” of the chairman are not far-fetched. In the aftermath of the failed imposition of candidates in the National Assembly, Chief Odigie-Oyegun had refused to kowtow to the demands of a contending camp in the party to sanction the “rebels” Saraki and Dogara, instead toeing the line of caution to ensure that APC did not lose grip of the National Assembly leadership to the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Also, the decision of the Odigie-Oyegun-led APC to pick Yahaya Bello over Abiodun Faleke (Tinubu’s candidate) in the aftermath of the Kogi governorship debacle following Abubakar Audu’s death is another “sin”.

His third major “sin” is his handling of the recent primary election in Ondo state whose outcome had forced Mr Tinubu to call for the resignation of the chairman.

Jonathan Lied Again From US; Military Went Berserk In 2014, Blocked Newspapers Distribution in Abuja, Lagos
Contrary to former President Goodluck Jonathan's seemingly claim that there was Press Freedom during his administration, fact check by News Punch has revealed that during his era as the President of Nigeria, the military were on crackdown on newspapers by sealing off the popular major distribution depot in the Area 1 District of Abuja, from where all newspapers are distributed to agents and vendors across the Nigerian capital.

Premium Times report of June 7th 2014has it that soldiers in about seven trucks laid siege on the distribution point, preventing any kind of newspaper circulation from taking place.

The report said media houses promptly devised an alternate and secret means to ensure their papers get to the public in the Nigerian capital promptly; a reminder of the days of military dictatorship.

The Managing Director of Leadership Group, Azubike Ishiekwene, expressed his concern at the situation.

“As I speak to you now, I’ve been driving round Abuja, there are no papers in town. The major newspaper depot at Area 1 has been shut down by soldiers in seven trucks,” he told PREMIUM TMES. “This is definitely an affront on press freedom and free speech.”

It was not only in Abuja that the military declared war on newspapers.

In Lagos, soldiers confiscated thousands of copies of the Saturday edition of Leadership newspaper at the domestic wing of the Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos.

The Lagos editor of the newspaper, Kazeem Akintunde, confirmed the seizure to PREMIUM TIMES.

“Yes, our paper was seized this morning at the airport around 6 a.m.,” Mr. Akintunde said.
The newspaper’s cover story for the day concerns the death of the Emir of Kano and not any report relating to military operations.
He also said a staff of the circulation department of the paper was arrested by the soldiers.

In Benin, the Edo State capital, soldiers continued their siege on the office of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, NUJ, preventing all but Leadership and The Nation newspapers from being circulated.

Patrick Ochoga, the Edo state correspondent of Leadership in Benin confirmed this to PREMIUM TIMES.

The military attack on Nigerian newspapers commenced on Friday with soldiers confiscating thousands of Nigerian newspapers including Leadership, The Nation, and Punch newspapers.

The military, however, defended its actions in a statement by its spokesperson, Chris Olukolade, who said it was a routine security check.

“The Defence Headquarters wishes to clarify that the exercise has nothing to do with content or operation of the media organisations or their personnel as is being wrongly imputed by a section of the press,” Mr. Olukolade, a Major General, said on Friday.

Mr. Olukolade could not be reached on Saturday to comment on the continuing media onslaught.

The Nigerian government also, Friday, defended the military’s attack on Newspapers.

“The military will not deliberately and without cause, infringe on the freedom of the press,” Mike Omeri, the Director General of the National Orientation Agency said.

According to him, “confiscation of newspapers has nothing to do with content or operation of the media organisations or their personnel.”

The military onslaught against the media might not be unconnected with several media reports, first published by Leadership Newspapers, that nearly a dozen army generals and soldiers on lower ranks were being court-martialled for sabotaging the Nigerian government’s onslaught against Boko Haram; a report the military denied.

Mr. Jonathan’s speech on Saturday comes at a time several of his aides are being detained and some prosecuted for alleged corrupt practices while many others have since absconded from the country.

Some of Mr. Jonathan’s former aides being prosecuted include ex-NSA Sambo Dasuki and former presidential aide Waripamowei Dudafa. Others being investigated and currently in detention include former presidential spokesperson, Reuben Abati, and ex-Abuja minister Bala Mohammed. Some others like former aide Kingsley Kuku and ex-petroleum minister Diezani Alison-Madueke have since left the country allegedly to avoid prosecution.

Mr. Jonathan’s speech also comes amidst an increasing crackdown by security agencies on citizen journalists and bloggers.

We'll Allow Rice IMPORTATION Till 2017 - FG
The Minister of Agriculture, Audu Ogbeh has said Nigeria will stop the importation of rice next year.

Ogbeh said this at a joint Anchor Borrowers rice farm inspection with the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Mr. Godwin Emefiele and the Governor of Niger State, Alh Abubakar Bello, at Sunti, Lavun Local Government Area of Niger State.

“The federal government’s massive rice production programme, has made huge impacts on the nation’s rice supply and will therefore end rice importation into the country as from next year,” he said.

Ogbeh also said the Federal Government was planning on distributing improved seedlings to farmers.

CBN Governor, Godwin Emefiele while speaking said the CBN was convinced that Nigeria can achieve its objectives of putting a total barrier on food importation.

“We were convinced at the CBN that the nation was wasting foreign exchange in the importation of food items that we can conveniently produce at home. That was why we chose specific crops such as rice, wheat, soya beans and cotton as the immediate target of the programme.

“The results are there for all to see that indeed, the decision to grow the food that we eat in the country makes a great economic sense. By growing our food at home, rather than import them, we create jobs for our people, create wealth and conserve foreign exchange for other uses”, he said.

$2.2b Arms Fraud: Dasuki Calls Jonathan As Witness, Insist Open Trial, To Mention Names That May 'Set Nigeria Ablaze'

dasuki
Former National Security Adviser (NSA) Sambo Dasuki, who is on trial for alleged mismanagement of $2.1billion arms funds, would like former President Goodluck Jonathan to be his witness, it was learnt yesterday.

Dr. Jonathan has faulted the charges against Dasuki, claiming that the ex-NSA could not have stolen about $2.2billion votes for arms. “We bought warships, we bought aircraft, we bought lots of weapons for the army,” he said in a recent interview at the Oxford Union in the United Kingdom.

Speaking with our correspondent, Mr. Ahmed Raji (SAN), the ex-NSA’s counsel, said Dasuki wanted Jonathan to testify in court.

Raji said: “It will be desirable for Jonathan to testify for the ex-NSA. It will throw greater light into grey areas. And it will serve the interest of Justice.

“It will be fantastic for him to go to court to testify. Dasuki is an agent of a disclosed and known principal.”

Another member of the legal team said: “With what Jonathan said in London, the only logical thing for him to do is to see it through.

“We want Jonathan to follow-through. If he backs out, it will be bad.”

But, in Raji’s view, a political solution will be better than trial because of the “characters involved”.

He said: “But, frankly speaking, I pray for a political solution to the problem because of the characters involved.

“Both the accused and the government should embrace a political solution to the problem.”

Asked if Dasuki is ready for political solution, he added: “Why not? He is.

”I believe the President is very sincere. He wants to reorganise Nigeria and he deserves the support of all.

“With a political solution, Mr. President will be in good stead to overcome unnecessary distractions in order to succeed.

“I pray that everybody will key into his vision and the economic challenges facing the nation.”

Those point of advising a political solution is that it will not be “tidy” for Dasuki to mention all those who got money from his office. Among them, said a source, are a prominent traditional ruler in the North, who reportedly got N500 million and a former Head of State.

A source, who spoke in confidence, said Dasuki’s defence team was banking on Jonathan’s testimony.

The source said: “All is set for the defence of Dasuki, who is still insisting on an open trial to let Nigerians know the beneficiaries of the arms cash.

“One of those who may testify is ex-President Goodluck Jonathan whose remarks in London appeared to be the first phase of the war chest of the ex-NSA.

“You know the ex-NSA said he acted on Jonathan’s instructions in disbursing some of the cash. And from the look of things, the ex-President is now ready to accept responsibility for whatever Dasuki did.

“We believe it has reached a level that Nigerians must know what really happened, how funds were disbursed and who got what.

“This is why a secret trial is not a viable option, with the way things are going.”

The source added: “So far, we have secured the consent of Jonathan to appear in court for Dasuki. This will make the trial worth it.”

It was learnt that a traditional ruler allegedly benefitted from the arms funds to the tune of about N500million.

Another source added: “Dasuki has a list of highly-placed beneficiaries from the arms cash. A particular traditional ruler got about N500million as a gift from the government through the Office of the National Security Adviser(ONSA). There are many hidden beneficiaries whom Nigerians must know.

“Nigerians will be shocked by some revelations which will come up during the trial. Nothing short of open trial will let Nigerians know the truth. We are ready for this.”

Dasuki had on December 13, 2015 said he disbursed the funds on Jonathan’s instructions.

The ex-NSA said: “I wish to state as follows: That I have been publicly indicted and any statement may jeopardise my defence. Having been briefed by the EFCC investigators on why I was invited, I will answer the charges in court. As such, I do not wish to make any further statement on the matter.

“That I am aware in November (I cannot remember the exact date), my office requested the CBN to exchange N10billion from the account of the Office of National Security Adviser domiciled in CBN. The money was exchanged at $47m and some Euros which I cannot remember. The exact amount was delivered at my residence.

“The money was for delegates that attended the nomination convention for the PDP. Presidential nomination. The money was paid and sent to Hon. (Waripamowei) Dudafa (SSAP Household) and ADC(C-I-C) for distribution on the instruction of the President.

“Based on the statement of Director of Finance and Administration (Salisu), Ibrahim Wambai, and Yazidu Ibrahim, all the cash (both foreign and local) are usually given to them for official use.

“I also noted the statement of Sagir Bafarawa whose company is Dalhatu Investment in which he stated that he received the sum of N4,633,000,000 from the account of the Office of the NSA. I authorised the payment . The money was for vehicles, motorcycles for youth empowerment and women sent to Saudi Arabia. I got the proposal from the President. I do not have the proposal; it should be at the office in the Villa.”

At Last, The Presidency Breaks Silence On Alleged 'Buhari's Authorized Amaechi Judge Bribe' Scandal; Issues Official Statement

buhari and amaechi
The Presidency on Sunday broke its silence on the allegations of inducements raised by two of the judges arrested recently, saying President Muhammadu Buhari would never authorise anybody to induce a judge to pervert the course of justice.

The Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Publicity, Garba Shehu, said this in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja.

It was the Presidency’s first official reaction to two of the embattled judges who claimed that the Minister of Transportation, Rotimi Amaechi, approached them allegedly on the instruction of the President to influence decisions on election cases.

A Justice of the Supreme Court, Justice Sylvester Ngwuta, who was one of those arrested by the Department of State Services had in a letter dated October 18, and addressed to the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Mahmud Mohammed, claimed that Amaechi had impressed it upon him that the President was interested in the judgments of the Supreme Court on Ekiti and Rivers elections going in favour of the All Progressives Congress.

Another Justice, Justice John Okoro, had also claimed that Amaechi told him that the President and the APC mandated him to inform him (Okoro) that they must win their election appeals in Rivers, Akwa Inom and Abia States at all costs.

But Shehu, in the statement, advised journalists and other Nigerians to stop linking Buhari to the travails of the judges.

“President Muhammadu Buhari would be the last person to authorise anybody to induce a judge to pervert the course of justice,” he said.

The presidential aide noted that despite his personal familiarity with some court judges, the President had never used that familiarity to seek favours from them from 2003, 2007 and 2011 when he was challenging the fairness of the presidential election results, from the lowest to the highest courts in the land.

He said as a politician, Buhari had never suggested to his lawyers to approach any judge for assistance to win his cases.

He said the President lives by this principle and has never deviated from it.

On the fate of the judges facing corruption allegations, Shehu said the President does not tell courts how to do their jobs and that anybody accused of corruption is protected by law to defend their innocence.

He explained that the purpose of the law is to punish the guilty and acquit the innocent, noting that the law protects the rights everyone.

Shehu said the President did not have any powers to force any court to convict anybody who is innocent, arguing that in a democratic society, that cannot happen without resistance by the people

Ondo: Gov. Mimiko Switches Support To Akeredolu To Effect Done Deal With Buhari, Allies To Defect To APC On Thursday

Allies of  Ondo State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko are already opening discussions with certain leaders of the All Progressives Congress (APC), following the court pronouncement which stripped their anointed candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for the November 26 governorship election.

According to Daily Sun, Gov. Mimiko is contemplating a deal that would ensure that he pulled the string to ensure victory for the APC candidate, Rotimi Akeredolu, while his role would ultimately be acknowledged and rewarded by leadership of the APC.

The source, who revealed that Mimiko’s meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari was actually facilitated by a former South-West governor and minister in Buhari’s cabinet, further disclosed that in the event that Jegede could not retrieve the ticket at the Court of Appeal, the outgoing governor would ask his  supporters to line behind Akeredolu, the APC candidate.

But Governor Mimiko has since denied the purported deal with APC. Mimiko, who spoke with Daily Sun through his media aide, Eni Akinsola, said there was no reason for him to dump Jegede for candidate of a rival party, Akeredolu.

The Court of Appeal will tomorrow sit on the appeal filed by Eyitayo Jegede whose name as the PDP standard bearer for the governorship election was removed by  the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and substituted with Jimoh Ibrahim.

The former Attorney General of Ondo State had emerged as the party’s candidate at the primary organised  by the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led faction while Ibrahim picked the ticket at a parallel primary organised  by the Senator Ali Modu-Sheriff leadership held in Ibadan, oyo State.

The electoral body had last Thursday deleted Jegede’s name from its list of eligible candidates for the election fixed for November  26, in compliance with the ruling of Justice Okon Abang of the Federal High Court, Abuja.

While ruling on an application filed by the factional chairman and secretary of the PDP in Ondo State, Prince Biyi Poroye and Ademola A. Genty,  Abang ordered INEC to “accept and process for the purpose of its functions and activities in the organisation and conduct of the Ondo State governorship election only the nomination of Ibrahim, who emerged from the primary election conducted by the 1st and 2nd plaintiffs/applicants, as candidate of the second defendant (PDP) in the Ondo governorship election.”

He also ordered INEC to “reject and jettison any other nomination submitted to it by any other person(s) apart from the first and second plaintiffs/applicants, indicating that no other person, apart from Ibrahim, is the candidate of the 2nd defendant for the governorship election.”

Meanwhile, a gale of defection has hit the state chapter of the party. Daily Sun gathered that certain chieftains of the party who have decided to dump the party would be received by the national leadership of the APC, billed to storm Akure on Thursday, for the official flag off of the campaign.

Among those expected to defect are former governorship aspirant and former director general of the National Sports Commission,  Gbenga Elegbeleye; former member of the state House of Assembly,  Thompson Otito Atikase and a former lawmaker, Afolabi Iwalewa.

Elegbeleye and Atikase in separate telephone interviews confirmed the development. Atikase said he was not comfortable with the development in the PDP and accused the outgoing state governor of running the party aground.

‘’I am a practical politician, I don’t deceive myself. Mimiko has destroyed this party because of Jegede and there is no way we can win the election. So, there is no point staying back. I am going to declare officially for APC on Thursday,” he said.

Man Treks From Lagos To Kaduna To Prove Love To C'Rivers State Ex-Governor's Daughter, The Lover Calls Him 'Crazy' For Doing So

Man Treks From Lagos To Kaduna To Prove Love To C'Rivers State Ex-Governor's Daughter
One Tunde Agbaje, a 26-year-old man, has reportedly trekked from the Ketu area of Lagos State to Zaria in Kaduna State.

Agbaje, who is said to be a cousin of a former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, gubernatorial candidate in Lagos State, Jimi Agbaje, went on the adventure to prove his love for a lady, Sharon Donald.

Punch reports that the 26-year-old Donald is the daughter of a former governor of a state in the South-South and had recently travelled to New York, United States of America.

It was learnt that Agbaje and Donald had met in Ikoyi, Lagos State, and had been friends for the past six years, but she had severally rejected his marriage proposal.

Agbaje said he decided to trek to Zaria to prove his love for Donald, adding that he was on the road for 19 days.

The Lagos State indigene was reportedly received on Friday, October 21, by the Chief Security Officer of the Ahmadu Bello University, Col J.K. Tukur; and the protocol office of the Emir of Zaria.

He was later taken to a hospital where he was reportedly treated for the injuries he sustained during the trek, which was monitored by a GPS tracker.

Narrating how he met Donald, Agbaje said, “I was with my friends sometime in 2010 and while we were discussing about ladies, I said I wished God would just show me my wife anytime soon.

“About five minutes later, we were hungry and I went to get food on Awolowo Road. It was my first day at that eatery. I was waiting to be served when she walked in. Coincidentally, that day was also her first day there. I observed that there was a love image at the back of the trousers she put on.

“She approached me and asked what she could buy and I advised her. We later exchanged contacts and became friends. That was how my love for her started growing. We met several times afterwards.”

Agbaje said some months later, he decided to open up on his feelings for Donald, but she turned him down.

He said he persisted, adding that when Donald didn’t bulge, he decided to do “what no man can do for her.”

“I chose to trek to Zaria because her parents dated for six years in ABU, Zaria, before they got married. I didn’t let my parents know and to ensure I was not disturbed, I changed my SIM card. I took a tracker along with me to monitor my movements. I never took a bus at any time. It was a tough task and I even collapsed some of the times. I took off from Ketu on October 2 and arrived in Zaria on Thursday, October 20, around 4.15pm.

“I have no regret for what I have done. I have proved my love for her, even though she didn’t reciprocate my feeling. I believe even if she gets married to another person, nobody will ever be able to do what I did for her,” Agbaje added.

CSO of ABU, Tukur, called Donald to ask if she was aware of Agbaje’s adventure, which she acknowledged.

She, however, didn’t state if she would accept his proposal.

Reacting, however, Donald said she knew Agbaje was embarking on the trek, adding that she warned him against it.

She said, “Tunde (Agbaje) has been harassing and stalking me for the past six years and as far as I am concerned, this is just a new escapade in a series of his harassment.

“I met Tunde at a church when I was living in Lagos and we were both part of the youth ministry. He never had a friendship, let alone a relationship, with me. I was in a music group and some of the youths had my phone number, including him.

“He later found out where I lived and came to my house. My mum warned him to leave me alone, but he refused. ‎

“I changed my phone number and moved to the US, but I don’t know how he got my contact. I have stopped picking calls from Nigeria because of him.

“He later called me and said he was going to trek to prove his love for me in a non-violent way and I told him not to do it because he could die. I said that not because I cared, but just for Christian charity. This guy is mentally unstable, because how can you still be stalking a woman who has turned you down for six years?”

Buhari’s Raving Engines, Govs Snoring Slumber in States, By Uche Madu John
The return of democracy in 1999 delighted virtually all Nigerians. There were undisguised and exceptional display of optimism for a bright future and a better nation. The euphoria was premised on the assumption that representative governance would pursue and promote popular masses-orientated initiatives.

The now opposition PDP, which controlled power in the country for 16 years became more of locusts and vermins. They officially endorsed corruption, squandered national resources, foreign reserves, ignored security threats to the coherence and peace of the nation, neglected the development of critical infrastructure in power, roads, healthcare and so forth, even when crude was sold at princely prices.

The ousting of PDP and the enthronement of the APC national government led by President Muhammadu Buhari in 2015 renewed hopes of a better future and prosperity for Nigeria. The euphoria, evident in the bizarre things some elated Nigerians exhibited, like trekking hundreds of kilometers or nights of bonfires which trailed the declaration of Buhari as President –elect amply verified the determination of Nigerians for freedom from oppressively bad governance.

President Buhari lucidly outlined the focus and priorities of the APC led Federal Government in his first interface with Nigerians.

It was a passionate plea with governors and all stakeholders to replicate same at the state and local levels. Disappointingly though, the four-year life span of the present administration would soon run into two spent years. Despite the odds, further inflamed by economic recession, Buhari is making steady progress in certain keys areas of affliction of the Nigerian state. He is confronting insecurity in all its ramifications from the Northeast to the Niger Delta creeks and the results are manifest.

The milestones his administration has recorded in curbing the subsisting and pervasive corruption has been applauded even by his ardent critics. The ending of profligacy in public governance is legendary and stabilized fuel supply. The Treasury Single Account (TSA) and the clearing of arrears of salaries owed federal and state civil servants are positive signs of his commitment to meet the leadership expectations of Nigerians.

Buhari’s struggle to stabilize the economy through its diversification, the retention of Nigeria as the largest economy in Africa and the attraction of foreign investors especially from China willing to do business in Nigeria are the good tidings.

Regrettably, State Governors have refused to complement the efforts of “change” agenda at the state and local government levels. They are yet to purge themselves of the mentality of governance as lip service to the people.

Mention of names of specific Governors or states would be avoided, not because they are dreaded. But the piece is meant to silently prick the conscience of these state chief executives caught up in the web of deceit of the people to have a changed heart.

It’s not in doubt that the anti-corruption campaign resonates more at the national level, with little or virtually no similar action in the states or local councils. In a few states where there are traces of the exposure of corruption, the incumbent Governors have an axe to grind with their predecessors and so, it’s more of political vindictiveness than genuine commitment.

Many appointees of the changed government still enmesh in corrupt acts before the nose of their bosses unchallenged, creating the indisputable impression of acting with the approval of the governors. The Governors alongside with the aides have leaped in personal wealth, while the states stagnate.

It explains why some state governors still owe backlog of inherited workers’ salaries, despite Buhari’s sumptuous bail-out funds; have erected fresh pyramids of workers salary debts, in spite of increased federal allocation to states in the last few months. None of these governors is interested in truthfully discussing Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) figures. But emphasis is usually placed on federal allocation and its insufficiency to pay mere salaries.

State Governors have shunned the implementation of TSA which ensures transparent and accountable government revenues for public scrutiny.

Despite monthly security votes, governors allow insecurity in their domains to deteriorate before any action is initiated. And when it eventually blows out uncontrollably, it is the President who takes the blame for failing to secure the lives and property of Nigerians in clear abuse of his oath of office.

The health sector is in absolute ruins in most states and some governors do not consider it a necessity to reinvigorate. Primary health care centres have only ramshackle structures, with no doctors, drugs or health personnel to administer Medicare. The secondary level of healthcare delivery suffers the same dislocation.

Some Governors have chosen to be global-trots. They have travelled out of their states too numerous times to recount, in the guise of sourcing for foreign investors. They come back home each time with fantastic stories about the benefits such foreign trips would bring to their states.

Except that the people are yet to feel the impact of such deceitful trips nearly two years now. Such is the extent issues of governance have been trivialized, against the spirit of APC’s change agenda.

But these governors forget easily that the endemic problem of poor electricity supply cannot attract foreign investors. Northern states can invest in solar energy for power generation, which is a technology in vogue in countries with high sunlight energy. But they are waiting for power supply from the national grid.

While Buhari has trimmed down public wasteful spending, the convoys of some governors are still heavy and their cabinets very bulky, with a retinue of dozens of unrecognizable personal aides. One Governor in the North has nearly 30 commissioners in his cabinet, with some ministries duplicated by name. All these combine to weigh down on public coffers in a recessed economy.

These acts have grounded governance at the state and local government levels and with no such supportive efforts; the much Buhari is doing at the federal level has piled into insignificance.

State Governors have turned local governments, whether headed by elected councils or sole administrators’ into their cash cows; hence they handpick leaders of the councils. The allegiance of those fortunate to climb the ladder is not to the people or service delivery, but to nourish the limitless financial appetite of political godfathers who planted them.

The balance of funds accruing to the councils after servicing these interests is equally cornered by those vested with leadership at the third tier of government as their part of the booty. So, the 744 local councils in Nigeria have been recklessly raped of their resources by Governors and abandoned.

But these Governors and local council bosses should not forget that much as Buhari intends to positively touch every segment or community in Nigeria, he cannot assume their official positions and run government on their behalf. It necessitates the need to stop gazing in the sky to wait for Buhari, but be propelled by the zeal for selflessness and service as priority in their psyche.

An uncle of the daughter of the Emir of Daura, Hajia Nafisatu Umau Farouk Umar, who got married to the son of  the Shehu of Borno on Saturday, has described the marriage as unprecedented in the history of Daura

The uncle, Alhaji Lawal Aminu, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Daura that between 500 and 1000 people came from Borno to Daura to witness the occasion.

He said that the father of the groom, the Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar Ibn Umar Garbai Al-Amin El-Kanemi and the mother both came and stayed in Daura for three days for the wedding.

According to him, that development, where both father and mother travel to another town to attend the wedding of their son, is a novelty in Hausaland and unprecedented

He said the marriage had opened a new chapter of cordial relationship and brotherhood between the people of Daura and those of Borno.

Aminu said that in his over 66 years, he had never seen a marriage that had attracted so many people to the ancient town of Daura like that marriage..

Many people who spoke to NAN also shared the same view that attendance at the marriage was unprecedented.

According to the Cigari of Daura, also a son-in-law of the emir, apart from the people of Borno who came in large number, other people from different walks of life, including Niger Republic, attended the wedding.

He prayed to Allah to bless the wedding and the couple with prosperity and obedient children.

Similarly, Malam Aminu Shehu, a resident of Daura, said he could not count the number of important dignitaries that attended the wedding.

NAN reports that, the marriage, between Nafisa and Abba, was presided over by the Chief Imam of Daura, Alhaji Safiyanu Yusuf, at 12,30pm on Saturday, Oct. 29 at the Emir of Daura’s palace.

The marriage is likened to what Bayajida, the son of the King of Baghdad, capital of Iraq, did when he came to Borno from Baghdad and ended up in Daura where he married Daurama, he Queen of Daura hundreds of years ago.

Historically, Daura is believed to be the origin of the Hausa states and occupies a very important position in the history of Northern Nigeria.

Among the dignitaries that witnessed the ceremony yesterday were the governors of Katsina and Bauchi states, Aminu Masari and Mohammed Abubakar respectively, among many others.

The high point of the occasion was the staging of a mini durbar in the evening by the groom, his friends, members of the Daura royal family and well-wishers  to bring to an end the occasion.

The bride had been taken to her husband’s house in Maiduguri from Daura on Sunday.

The president did this to create awareness on his ‘Operation Wealth Creation’ agenda of drip irrigation for crops.

The president who took to his Facebook page this morning to share some of the pictures said:

“Today is Day Three of my Operation Wealth Creation drive in Luweero. This morning, I fetched water on my bicycle to demonstrate drip irrigation for coffee and bananas that I have planted on the 24 acres of land recently acquired by government in Kawumu Village, Luweero District. Fresh Rumbles In APC As Buhari ENDORSES Oshiomhole To Replace Oyegun As National Chairman

buhari oyegun oshiomhole
The Authority - As the lingering internal crisis rocking the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) threatens to splinter the party, the top hierarchy of the party has decided to sacrifice its national chairman, Chief John Odigie-Oyegun.

This tactical move to ease out the APC’s National Chairman is seen as an interim measure to stabilize the ruling party and save it from imploding.

It was learned from impeccable sources according to The Authority that the outgoing Edo State governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, whose second-term as governor ends on the 12th November, 2016, has been penciled down to replace embattled Oyegun as the party’s national chairman.

To firm up this ‘coup’ against Oyegun, which has the presidency’s backing, The AUTHORITY also scooped that President Muhammadu Buhari has agreed to a “face saving” ambassadorial position for the out-of-favour Oyegun.

Party Sources confirmed that, “there is no going back on the decision”. Rightly or wrongly, Oyegun who guided the APC to victory over the PDP has been accused of “killing” the party.

The choice of Comrade Oshiomhole stems from the fact that, like Oyegun, he is from the South-South geo-political zone - with the clincher that he has a solid labour background.

By a convenient coincidence for the APC, Oshiomhole’s tenure as governor will be ending in a matter of weeks.

Several party sources with knowledge about this development that The AUTHORITY sounded out hope that Oshiomhole will be able to build the APC into a formidable “populist” party, a “ party in every sense of the word.”

As a specific diversionary tactic and to create the condition necessary for the scripted scenario to play out, Oyegun is expected to ‘resign’ - a quirky, cloned template of PDP succession intrigues then.
It will be recalled that following the recent APC governorship primary election in Ondo State that produced a candidate who is not Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu’s choice, Tinubu openly called for Oyegun’s resignation, a position Oyegun dismissed out of hand.

According to a miffed Oyegun, “Yes, I agree that the nature of the statement was a bit harsh. The methods of getting rid of a national chairman, if that is what I will call it, are spelt out in the constitution; they don’t take place on the pages of newspapers.”

Although Tinubu and Oyegun shook hands and exchanged pleasantries during Buhari’s recent book launch in Abuja, their relationship appeared to have been irreparably damaged.

Apparently tipping the scale against Oyegun, former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar recently expressed a public position which apparently backed Tinubu.

The Deputy National Publicity Secretary of the APC, Timi Frank, also recently accused Oyegun of mismanaging the party, alleging that a lot of things have gone wrong in the APC because of Oyegun’s leadership style.

Frank, who described Oyegun as a political liability, said what APC needs is a leader who will add political value to the party. He also slammed Oyegun, saying he does not understand the constitution of the APC.

According to Frank, “This is the reason why I will continue to fight to ensure that the APC takes Nigeria to the right place but as long as Odigie-Oyegun remains as national chairman, we cannot achieve anything. Now that I am calling for his resignation, some may think it is personal, but it is not.

“We need a national chairman that will add political value to our party, we need a national chairman that can lead the party to victory during elections and we do not need a national chairman who will clearly be a political liability to this party as we head towards elections.
“We need a national chairman that will understand and follow due process in carrying out functions within the party. We need a chairman who understands the constitution in words and in deed.”

But cogent posers are already emerging that could affect the smoothness of this dodgy succession plot. The key question here is - would Oyegun who has the reputation of a plucky fighter agree to resign?

Already, the ruling party has unforeseen challenges replacing its national publicity secretary Lai Mohammed. The AUTHORITY gathered that the plan to replace him with former sports minister under President Goodluck Jonathan, Alhaji Bolaji Abdullahai, was aborted by forces opposed to the emerging strangle-hold of Senate President Bukola Saraki on the party. Bolaji Abdulahi is a protégé of Saraki.

From what is apparently playing out, the APC is threading the now opposition PDP’s path. It will be recalled that Chief Solomon Lar, who guided the party to victory, was similarly replaced by Chief Barnabas Gemade.

Many have not forgotten that the PDP has not recovered from that ugly beginning.

The AUTHORITY also gathered that Oyegun is ready for a vicious battle against Ambassador Babagana Kingibe, who is presently working as an “Executive Assistant” to the controversial and powerful Chief of Staff to President Buhari, Alhaji Abba Kyari .

Kingibe was running mate to Chief MKO Abiola, the acclaimed winner of the annulled June 12 presidential election.

He is widely perceived to have been one of the key insider forces that aided the trade-off of Abiola’s acclaimed and historic Muslim-Muslim ticket victory.

Kingibe is campaigning for the position of Permanent Representative of Nigeria to the United Nations.

For Odigie-Oyegun to leave office, the APC NWC must bow to the demands of several party stakeholders and groups to organise an emergency National Executive Council (NEC) meeting or a mini convention, where all the permutations on the enthronement of Oshiomhole and Abdulahi as well as other vacant NWC positions may be ratified.

For example, some non-NWC members of the NEC had last week issued a two-week ultimatum to the Odigie-Oyegun led NWC to convene an emergency NEC meeting to discuss the many issues rocking the unity of the APC.

The group in a communique issued at the end of its meeting in Abuja and signed by Hon. Omolaoye O. Akintola, National Ex-Officio, South West and Coordinator, noted, with regret, the inability of the NWC under Odigie-Oyegun to convene the quarterly NEC meeting as contained in the party’s constitution.

The APC constitution states clearly that only the NEC or party convention can ratify the choice of any national officer.

Bishop Kukah Prays For The Trio Of PDP VIP Prisoners Obanikoro, Fani-Kayode, Abati In EFCC Custody

The Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Most Rev’d Matthew Kukah, on Monday visited the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, in Abuja, where he prayed for some chieftains of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, currently being detained.

Kukah prayed for former Minister of Aviation, Femi Fani-Kayode, former Minister of state for Defence, Musiliu Obanikoro and ex-spokesman to the immediate past president, Reuben Abati.

The trio are being held for allegedly benefiting from the slush funds said to be misappropriated by the former National Security Adviser, Col Sambo Dasuki (rtd).

Kukah, who was conducted round the detention facility by the acting Chairman of the agency, Ibrahim Magu, described it as ‘clean and orderly.”

The priest, who used the visit to assess the state of the detention facilities, said he was satisfied that the EFCC paid premium attention to the well being of the detainees by ensuring that the facilities provided comfort to them.

Speaking after the tour, the clergyman said, “I discussed with some detained suspects like Femi Fani-Kayode, Musiliu Obanikoro and Reuben Abati; and I am quite pleased they are looking cheerful.

“I was also happy with the humility of the acting Chairman who took me round and the way he interacted with the detainees. This is what is important for our country so that nobody takes these kinds of things personal. I am happy I came.

“We are all staff of EFCC to the extent that we want a better country and we are doing what needs to be done. We’ll continue praying that God guides you, keeps you safe and ensure that we build a country that we all will be proud of. This country has suffered so much, but we hope and pray that we can bring the suffering and trauma to an end as we collectively fight corruption.”

Kukah had over the weekend called on Nigerians to work towards the unity of the country, stressing that Nigeria does not belong to Christians, Muslims or any political party.

Igbo Are Bad Politicians, Should Fashola Were Igbo, He Would've Left Tinubu - Orji Kalu

A former Governor of Abia State, Orji Kalu, has said Igbo people are better traders than politicians.

Kalu said the lack of understanding of politics and the indiscipline of Igbo politicians were responsible for what he called the political backwardness of the South-East.

He said the political fortune of the Igbo would have been better had their politicians approached politics like the Yoruba.

Kalu said Igbo politicians had a lot to learn from how a former Governor of Lagos State, Babatunde Fashola, and his predecessor, Bola Tinubu, handled their differences during Fashola’s second term.

He said things would have been different if his own successor, Theodore Orji, had the same approach as Fashola.

Kalu, who said most of the Igbo elite were selfish, said the Igbo should blame themselves and not the Federal Government for their woes.

The Editor-in-Chief of The Interview magazine, Mr. Azu Ishiekwene, in a statement of Monday, quoted Kalu as saying this in a recent interview he granted the magazine.

According to Ishiekwene, Kalu told The Interview magazine that, “Let me tell you, there were more problems between (Bola) Tinubu and (Babatunde) Fashola than there were between me and Theodore Orji. But it is the discipline of the Yoruba that kept them at bay.

“The Igbo have no discipline in terms of politics. They are very good traders; they’re good in anything they do, but they don’t understand politics.”

Kalu recalled a conversation he had with President Muhammadu Buhari, where the President wondered aloud “why previous high-profile Igbo appointees had done nothing for the region.”

According to Ishiekwene, Kalu barred his mind on the agitation for the sovereign state of Biafra as well as the travail of the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra, Nnamdi Kanu.

He also spoke on “his relationship with former President Ibrahim Babangida and former Governor Ikedim Ohakim; the recent statement of former Governor Peter Obi; and allegations that while he governed Abia for eight years, his mother ruled,” Ishiekwene said

MMM Nigeria
Punch Newspaper - The Head, Consumer Protection Department, CBN, Hajiya Kadija Kassim, stated this during a mentoring programme for students of the Government Secondary School, Suleja, Niger State.

The mentoring programme, which was held simultaneously in over 200 schools, was part of activities to mark the World Savings Day.

The apex bank’s warning is coming at a time when the huge unemployment situation in the country is making a lot of people to take interest in an online investment scheme tagged: ‘MMM Federal Republic of Nigeria (nigeria.mmm.net)’.

The platform has embarked on an aggressive online media campaign to lure the investing public to participate in what it called “mutual aid financial network,” with a monthly investment return of 30 per cent.

Kassim, while responding to a question asked by one of the students, described the scheme as fraudulent since it was not supported by any business model.

She said, “We have heard about the activities of MMM, but I want to warn you against it because they are wonder banks that are not regulated.

“Desist from their activities because they are fraudulent.”

She said the theme of this year’s World Savings Day, ‘Don’t save what is left after spending, but spend what is left after saving’, would assist in creating the needed awareness on the need to save.

She added, “The World Savings Day is a tradition created with the objective of stressing the importance of savings for modern economies and individuals alike.

“The primary objective is to increase awareness on financial literacy among various segments of the general public to sensitise them to the importance of saving, earning a livelihood, inculcating a savings habit, and generating employment and entrepreneurship for personal and national development.”

2019: Obasanjo Confirms New Party Coming Soon To Retire APC, PDP

Obasanjo
The Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has described the ruling All Progressives Congress, APC as a party already in intensive unit care and may soon die like the Peoples Democratic Party, which he said was already in the hands of undertakers preparatory to burial, but quick to add that a 'third force' (a political party) will soon emerge.

Obasanjo made the declaration on Friday according to Nigerian Tribuneat his Abeokuta Hilltop resident in Abeokuta, Ogun State Capital when he received members of a political association, The National Patriots’ Movement of Nigeria (NPMN), led by the national coordinator, Chief Dosu Oladipo

At the meeting, which lasted for about five hours, were more than 70 eminent politicians drawn from all the states in the South-West.

The purpose of the meeting, Sunday Tribune gathered, was to inform the former president of the aim of the group and seek his elderly advice.

The former leader used the occasion of the visit to bare his mind on the debate of the possible emergence of a third force, as the march towards 2019 general election progressed.

He was of the view that the precarious state of the PDP Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), coupled with the internal contradictions in the governing All Progressives Congress (APC) was a pointer to a ‘third force’ emerging in the nearest future.

He restated his position that while the PDP was already in the hands of undertakers preparatory to burial, the APC was at an intensive unit because its internal organs were seriously haemorraged.

He expressed delight at the calibre and integrity of the members of NPMN, which comprised former ministers, governors, members of the National Assembly, envoys, and other categories of professionals.

The three-time Nigerian leader said the initial report he got about the organisation was that it was being sponsored by a notable politician to prepare ground and serve as a launching pad for his (the Politician’s) presidential ambition.

Obasanjo urged NPMN leaders and members to neither be too slow nor too fast on the project they had embarked on but to sustain the tempo of their ongoing consultations and “footwork” before launching what he described as groundwork.

He promised that he would continue to identify only with groups with altruistic intentions for the overall unity and development of the country, just as he reaffirmed his status as a Yoruba man.

The national coordinator, Chief Oladipo, in his remark, said it was a political movement comprising people of integrity and who felt it was time for them to stand up to be counted at this period in the history of the country.

Obasanjo Withdraws Support For Buhari Govt, Says BATTLE LINE Drawn As He Makes Angry Phone Calls To FG; You'll Be Shocked Why

Buhari Onasanjo
A former President, Olusegun Obasanjo has reportedly said he has drawn a battle line with President Muhammadu Buhari led Federal Government over proposed $29.9 billion foreign by the later

According to Nigerian Tribune, Olusegun Obasanjo has kicked against the plan by the Federal Government to obtain a $29.96 billion foreign loan..

Obasanjo was said to have phoned the Minister of Finance, Mrs Kemi Adeosun, shortly after the media reported the loan bid, which the Federal Government explained would be used to finance critical infrastructure deficiency between now and 2018.

But the Finance Minister, it was learnt, told an alarmed Obasanjo that she would pay him a visit to explain the rationale for the plan, which has triggered mixed reactions on the necessity or otherwise of such loan.

The former president, Sunday Tribune gathered, spoke on the proposed foreign loan when he received members of a political association, The National Patriots’ Movement of Nigeria (NPMN), led by the national coordinator, Chief Dosu Oladipo, at his Hilltop residence in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, on Friday.

Obasanjo, it was learnt, not only opposed the loan bid, but also threatened to draw a battle line with the Federal Government should it go ahead to obtain the loan which he said could have far-reaching negative effects on the nation.

While some experts have advised the government to deploy part of the funds reportedly recovered from allegedly corrupt politicians in the last political dispensation to such purpose, others claimed the loan could be raised internally.

Many others are concerned about the wisdom in such loan when the government was being weighed down by huge domestic debt to local contractors.

Obasanjo had successful negotiated with Western nations to write off $12.5 billion foreign debt to the Paris Club, a body of European creditors during his tenure.

In justifying the proposal for the N429.96 billion external loan, President Muhammadu Buhari, had in a letter to the National Assembly said, “The total cost of the projects and programmes under the borrowing (plan) is $29.96 billion made up of proposed projects and programmes loan of $11.274 billion, special national infrastructure projects, $10.686 billion, Euro bonds of $4.5 billion and Federal Government budget support of $3.5 billion.”

But Nigeria’s foreign reserves have dipped lately, ostensibly owing to economic recession and intense pressure on Nigeria’s naira as a result of the scarcity of United States dollars.

PDP Lavishes Praises On AMBODE, Says He has Done Better Than Predecessor, Says FASHOLA Liar, Deceptive

Ambode and fashola
In an unusual manner, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP Lagos chapter has lavished praises on Governor Akinwunmi Ambode in what it termed the outstanding performance of Governor of the All Progressives Congress in the state.

The PDP in a statement by its spokesman, Taofik Gani on Monday declared that Ambode had taken government’s presence to many areas in the state allegedly abandoned for eight years by his predecessor, Babatunde Fashola.

The PDP advised President Muhammadu Buhari to be wary of Fashola, who, it said, had a penchant for making unverifiable claims of achievements.

The opposition party also expressed reservation over Buhari’s decision to give three ministerial portfolios relating to engineering to Fashola, who is a lawyer.

The PDP berated Fashola for celebrating a proposed injection of 30 megawatts into the national grid, when, according to the PDP, the minister had been provided with resources enough to inject over 500 megawatts into it.

Gani said instead of celebrating, Fashola should have been sober for allegedly mismanaging the country’s power generation from “6000MW when he took over to now less than 2000MW.”

He said, “We sincerely advise President Buhari to be very wary of the deceptive skills of Fashola who will usually hype and celebrate even mediocrity.

“Fashola has a penchant for misrepresenting facts of his achievements in government and would always rationalise obvious inadequacies.”

“As governor of Lagos State, he enjoyed unprecedented revenues and donations, yet he left many services untouched or unfinished. He, however, deliberately funded his pro-Fashola media and commentators so much that pseudo and exaggerated achievements were ascribed to him.

“He employed this model to promote his eight years government of mediocrity. Fashola ended up making Lagos State the biggest debtor with local and foreign debts well over N1trn.”

Ondo Election: I've Secured Tinubu's Support - Akeredolu Boasts

The Ondo State All Progressives Congress, APC gubernatorial candidate Mr. Akeredolu, after meeting with President Muhammadu Buhari at Presidential Villa yesterday said to the state house correspondents that the APC would win the Nov.26 gubernatorial election in Ondo.

“l can always tell you, people who know me, they know that I talk most times with some confidence. Let me assure you here that by the grace of God, we will win the election in Ondo state.”

On his relation with a national leader of APC, Bola Tinubu, Mr. Akeredolu dismissed the insinuation that he had scores to settle with him.
He said that Mr. Tinubu’s silence over the conduct of the APC primaries signified acceptance of the exercise.

He said, “I don’t have any rift with him, since the primaries you would see that as a leader of the party, he has not said anything about it, he has accepted the primaries and we are moving on.

“So, I don’t have any rift with him at all and we are moving on.”

Mr. Akeredolu called on the security apparatus in Ondo “to be up and doing so that they don’t allow miscreants to take over the state’’.
“What we said is don’t allow miscreants to be out as it could lead to the breakdown of law and order; so it’s not that we are afraid, but we fear for the lives and property of the people of Ondo State.

On facing Jimoh Ibrahim or Eyitayo Jegede of the PDP, the APC gubernatorial candidate said he would have been happier facing both of them together.

“I can assure you I would have been happier facing both of them together,” he said. “If Eyitayo Jegede was chosen as candidate and Ibrahim as his deputy, I will still win.

“In fact, Jegede happens to be a friend, Ibrahim too. Jimoh Ibrahim went to Ife, so, we have known ourselves for long.
“I have no fear about both of them, we know that we are going to win this election and I have no doubt.”

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that Governor Mohammed Abubakar of Bauchi and Governor Badaru Abubakar of Jigawa, who were in the Presidential Villa, told the State House correspondents that they discussed security issues with President Buhari.

“We have come to confer (which is usual) with Mr President. But as you can see, I am here with the governor of Jigawa, as you know we share a border with Jigawa.

“We have come to discuss some security concerns with the President to solicit for his support for us to effectively ensure security in the two states, this is basically what we have come to discuss,” Mr. Abubakar said.

On Northern governors’ trip to the U.S., Mr. Abubakar said that the governors were invited by the United States Peace Institute based in Washington.

According to him, the United States’ government had a great concern for the northern part of Nigeria.

“They believe whatever situation that exists in the northern part of Nigeria has a multiplier effect on the whole nation.

“So, if you are able to solve the problem before it becomes a national problem, it will help, we have discussed with them the root causes of insurgency and illiteracy, poverty, lack of empowerment of youth and women.

“These are points we have discussed and the issues of IDPs in Borno, Bauchi, Taraba, Gombe.

“They have indicated their concern for the humanitarian crisis and especially about the situation of children in the IDP camps, and we have solicited for their immediate support so that we can overcome the challenges,’’ he added.
